Beijing Auto Show 2014: Audi A3 sedan launched, soon to arrive in India
An interesting feature of every International Auto Show is that every vehicle whether it is unveiled or launched during the event is not only designed for the organizing country but also for the global market and Audi A3 sedan is also not an exception to it. Apart from witnessing unveil and launch of various car models designed for Chinese market there are some models which are also developed for global market and Audi A3 sedan is among one of them, which would make its way to Indian car market later this year after being launched in Chinese car market. Codenamed as ‘A3 Limousine’ Audi A3 in China has been launched in two variants with price tag of 279,800 (Rs. 27.08 lakh) and 334,300 yuan (Rs. 32.36 lakh). The production of China bound sedan will take place at its Foshan production plant.
The Audi A3 sedan is empowered with EA888 1.8 TFSI engine churning the power of 180 hp and torque of 250 Nm. It is speculated that the Indian bound model will also be energized with same engine configuration but developing power of 168 bhp and torque of 320 Nm and will be coated with seven speed DSG gearbox. In India it will be assembled at company’s production plant located at Aurangabad. After launch in Indian car market it will compete against Mercedes Benz A Class and BMW 1 Series.
In Chinese car market it is expected to be launched during the mid of this year. There it will be produced in joint venture with FAW-Volkswagen, which at present produces the Audi A3 Sportback.
