Recently, Fiat, Volkswagen, General Motors, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai and Nissan have all applied for domain names with names of their company at the end of the domain name for e.g. .Fiat, .GM, .Toyota, .Hyundai etc. As per the reports, it is believed that the new domain names will be live soon and then the real web war is expected to trigger. This is expected to help car makers choose their own domain names contrary to the limited choice in the .com, .in or handful of other domain name extensions. Thus soon there will be .Chevrolet, .Hyundai and cars will be listed on them. Or there could have been .Chevrolet Beat Diesel or .Hyundai Eon domain names coming up soon.

Further information about the latest buzz in the auto industry reveals that the car companies have invested over $4,625,000 in registering these new name specific domains and have applied for these at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). However, experts in the field of website development have expressed doubt that the new domain name system will make searches more intensive and it would be very difficult for the user to remember a domain or to search a particular thing on the internet. Currently seeing it from the car industry perspective, it is like if someone wants to search Ford Fiesta, he or she can straightaway type Ford.com and the company website opens up. Now, after the new nomenclature comes into existence, dependence on search engines will increase.
