Chevrolet Spark electric version may be launched by 2013 in the global market

In an announcement made by the General Motor’s division Chevrolet it said that it will manufacture an all-electric vehicle, in the form of small car Chevrolet Spark. But added that initially the Spark Electric Vehicle (EV) will be manufactured and sold in limited numbers across selected American and global auto markets in the start of the year 2013. A leading battery manufacturing company, A123 Systems will be responsible for supply of modern nano-phosphate lithium-ion battery sets that will empower the Spark EV.

The Chevrolet global vehicle chief engineer, Mr. Jim Federico informed that Spark EV will mainly target the consumers who lives in urban areas, has a particular driving prototype or the people who are short commuters. The Spark EV will be another proud feather in the electrified range of Chevrolet group, which consists of Chevrolet Volt EV and 2013 Malibu Eco.

The company said that the representatives of the company are testing the different segment electric powered vehicles in various parts of the globe such as in Shanghai Chevrolet Sail EV, in Korea Chevrolet Cruze EV and Chevrolet Beat EV in India. Now the company will act upon the feedback received by its testing team and will integrate required changes in the Chevrolet Spark EV.

Mr. Fedrico stated that their team around the globe is giving them an inside view of the challenges faced by the electric vehicle user who lives in the city environment. Chevrolet’s global motive is to cater the world with a variety of electric vehicles that are eco-friendly, low on maintenance, ensures smooth living standard and transportation needs. And this vehicle, Chevrolet Spark EV is one of the steps to achieve the company’s objective.

In India where the car buyer seems helpless with the soaring fuel rates, this initiative by General Motors appears to be a ray of hope. Under the Chevrolet brand it retails Cruze, Beat, Captiva, Spark and Tavera in the country.
