Chevrolet Spark EV launched, Mahindra E2O launch close by

It is show time as General Motors has launched the electric version of the Chevrolet Spark in United States. The Spark EV or Spark Electric as it will be known henceforth is the latest development by GM and this car is believed to change the face of mobility giving freedom from the upward swing in prices of fuels. The Chevrolet Spark Electric price in US starts at USD 25k and in Indian rupees it is close to Rs 13.86 lakh. Though in Indian perspective it is highly priced but looking at the performance and the features in the car, this price is not so high. Meanwhile back in India, the second innings of the Mahindra Reva in the form of Mahindra E2O is about to begin. The Mahindra E2O price in India is expected to be around Rs 6-7 lakh.

The Beat Electric is expected to take this technology further and it is highly believed that soon other Chevrolet cars might sport this new technology and the experts believe that the car maker will soon add the electric versions to the model lineups. The most striking thing about the Spark EV is that it is not at all sluggish in its performance as the EVs are generally thought to be and it sprints to a 100 kmph mark in 8 seconds that means that it beats even some of the petrol or diesel cars as well in terms of pick up.

Powered by 130 bhp motor, the car uses Li-ion batteries to power it. The electric motor produces 542 Nm of torque that really burns rubber if the accelerator paddle is pressed too hard. Thus it is no less in terms of performance than a petrol or diesel car. Besides this, the charging time of the batteries is also less. It is only 20 minutes and the batteries get 80 percent charged. It is believed that soon after the so called Reva NXR launch, the Spark EV will arrive in India in a low priced avatar.
