Deadlock at Maruti Suzuki continues on day five, no production at Manesar
The impasse at the Haryana based Manesar manufacturing unit of Maruti Suzuki India sees no end as the strike by company’s workforce entered its fifth day. The firm’s representative said that the production was lower as compared to yesterday.
To strengthen the stalemate, strike was called by the workers at Suzuki Powertrain India Limited (SPIL) and Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited in favour of their suffering co-workers at Manesar plant.
The production unit of Manesar is right now confined in the hands of labours and there was no production possible there. Also the strike at the component supplier SPIL has worsened the situation, added the representative.
SPIL is responsible to supply engines and transmissions of various car models to MSI’s plant in Gurgaon and Manesar. The Gurgaon unit on Monday produced nearly 1800 units in contrast to usual 2800 units per day.
The workforce had turned out to be aggressive at MSI and incidents of thrashing the company managers, supervisors and co-workers who were working in the unit and not sustaining the standoff. In number of incidents the property and automotive equipments were harmed by the infuriate workers, as informed by MSI spokesperson.
On Friday afternoon the workers observed a stay-in strike at Manesar manufacturing plant which again affected its production. There were around 2000 workers who took part in stay-in strike inside the plant which consisted of trainees, regular as well as contractual employees.
Taking a strong note of past incidents, on Sunday MSI terminated five trainees, dismissed ten labors and ten regular employees accusing them of violent behaviour at the production unit premises.
Due to the unrest MSI is not able to cater the rising demand of its vehicles especially Maruti Swift, others include Wagon R, A- Star, Swift Dzire and SX4.
