Ford EcoBoost engine bags International Engine of the Year Award

The Ford 1-liter Ecoboost engine that is expected to power the upcoming compact SUV Ford Ecosport has been acclaimed as the International Engine of the Year. This is perhaps not just another acclamation for the powerful engine that is high on mileage and high on power output. Besides, the small size of the engine makes it fit to be fitted even in small cars. Recently, Ford has stepped up its capacity for producing the 1 L Ecoboost engine as well sensing its growing popularity. Ford has been able to bag this award for the first time in the last 13 years. Last year Fiat 0.9L TwinAir engine won this award.

The best part of the Ecoboost engine is that it combines the turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing even when it has lesser cubic capacity and still outputs higher power and torque similar to the high capacity engines. And this too with decently well mileage delivery. The Volkswagen 1.4-litre ‘Twincharger’ was the runner up while the Ferrari 4.5 L V8 engine got the third position. This engine is doing its duty in Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari 458 Spider. This engine was acclaimed as the best Performance Engine above 4.0-litre capacity. The BMW’s new 2.0 L four cylinder turbo engine won in the 1.8 L to 2 L category.

Currently, the Award Winning Ecoboost engine is under the hood of Ford Focus and it is soon expected to make a debut in the Ford Fiesta hatchback and sedan and the Ford Ecosport SUV. This Ford SUV is highly anticipated in India and it is expected to bring reform in the compact SUV segment. Meanwhile, Renault has decided to launch its Renault Duster SUV next month and it is expected that this SUV will have an upper hand of being launched first than Ecosport. The Ford Ecosport compact SUV will have this engine option under the hood besides an option of the diesel engine.
