Ford EcoSport China launch slated for 2012 end, renamed as YiBo
The prototype of Ford’s upcoming compact SUV EcoSport was showcased last month at the Beijing Motor Show. Buzz has it that the American auto major is readying itself to launch the new compact SUV, EcoSport in the budding Chinese car market. Ford EcoSport SUV will be manufactured in China by Chang’an-Ford alliance. EcoSPort will be known as YiBo in the Chinese car market. YiBo means ‘wings (of) combat’. China is the fastest growing market in the world and Ford has finally adopted aggressive strategies to tighten its strength in the domestic market.

Ford EcoSport price for China will range between Rs 100.000 yuan to 130.000 yuan. Ford will offer the compact SUV in two engine options for the Chinese customers which include the new 1-litre three cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine with a maximum power of 120 hp and 170 Nm and the other one is the 1. 5 litre four cylinder mill. Both the engines will be mated to a six speed DCT transmission. Ford EcoSport compact SUV is likely to be introduced in the Chinese car market by the end of 2012.

The India launch too is expected to happen by the end of 2012, however will the sharp hike in the petrol prices, Ford may not want to delay the launch of EcoSport diesel in India which may lead to delay in the launch of EcoSport.
