Maruti Alto 800 gets 50k bookings, Nano sales dwindle

Is it time for Tata Nano to exit and make way for Maruti Alto 800 that has literally captured the under Rs 2.5 lakh small car market? It seems so because the Alto 800 has already bagged 50,000 booking in less than two months and this means 30,000 bookings in a month which is far from what Nano can expect in dreams. The new Maruti small car has yet again reiterated that it is the most established brand and it is the small cars that can make quick money in India. Thus, this car has become the best selling car of the year and second to this could be Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire from the car maker’s stable and Renault Duster and others as well from other car makers.  

This preconceived success was inborn for two reasons. First is the Alto 800 price and secondly due to it being a small car and within the reach of the middle class which is the largest buyer of these cars. Besides this, the Maruti Alto 800 mileage and the features have also impressed many. This popularity is far above all its competitors including Nano, Hyundai Eon or the little pricey small car Honda Brio. The 50,000 bookings figure is mightier and means that India is a market that is governed by small cars and it is only small cars that can attain more than 20k sales per month.
 

 

This success could inspire other car maker such as Renault and Nissan besides others to refuel their small car launch plans. Where Renault could come up with an ultra low cost car, Nissan will be bringing the low cost car brand Datsun in India in 2014. In the meantime sources said that sensing the success of Alto 800, Tata could prepone the Tata Nano CNG and Tata Nano Diesel launch plans. It is expected that these will be arriving in some time, may be in the next few months.
