Honda CRV and Civic sedan recalled, India model unaffected

Japanese car maker Honda will recall its SUV Honda CR-V and premium sedan Honda Civic for the replacement of faulty horn. Only the cars in China will be included in the recall, said sources. The recall process is expected to begin next month. As per sources this is a minor recall and will not affect any of the major parts of the car. Sources also specifically said that Indian bound CR-V and Civic are not included in the recall. Honda’s Chinese subsidiary Dongfeng that manufacturers CR-V, Civic, and Honda Accord in China will be carrying out the recall.

The recall is expected to include 459,962 CR-V SUVs and Civic sedans. These are the models that have been produced between July 2009 and August 2011. Notably, responding to the increasing complaints by car owners of CRV and Civic saying that the horns of these cars do not blow after sometime, the General Administration of Quality and Supervision has decided to include it in the category of mass replacement and thus have decided for a recall. Based on the complaints a team of experts also checked a large number of vehicles with complaints and found that the horns were actually faulty and this could pose danger to the driver, occupants as well as the pedestrians.

In another move, the complaint has also been forwarded to the horn manufacturer who have devised a rectification of the complaints and that will be implemented during the recall. As per the official reports, Dongfeng will be carrying out the maintenance and repair free of cost. The car owner need to just check whether their car is included in the recall and they can then contact the nearest Honda dealership for the replacement/rectification of the horn. Dongfeng has also officially claimed that it will make sure that the fault does not arise again.
