Hyundai Elantra becomes the world’s best selling car leaving Toyota Corolla behind
Hyundai Elantra has become the world’s best selling car taking the title from Toyota Corolla. Toyota Corolla sedan has been the world’s best selling car driving past Volkswagen Beetle lately. If Corolla could have retained the title, it would have been in fact not a history created but just history repeated as Toyota Corolla has been carrying the crown of being the largest selling car for years now. But just missing the title this time is a severe blow to the Japanese car maker Toyota. Elantra on the other hand has brought accolades for the South Korean Car maker this time.

Possible reasons that have done the spoilsport for the Toyota and other Japanese car makers such as Honda, earthquake, Tsunami, floods in Thailand and consequent lack of supply of components. This had severely diminished the prospects of the continuing as the world’s best selling car. Experts believe that 2011 has been worse for car makers from both production as well as sales point of view. In India as well car makers like Honda, Toyota and others have to compromise their production capacities due to short supply of components. Maruti India on the other hand suffered a huge blow due to the labor strike at its Manesar plant. Following which the production of Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire sedan was severely affected and the waiting period rose to over six months at a point leading to a lot of cancellation of bookings.

Hyundai Motors on the other hand has been steadily climbing up the ladder gradually. Giving consistent performance in the recent years with consistent supply of cars, it has proved itself to be a much reliable brand. Following this, Hyundai Elantra (1.01 million sold in 2011) and Hyundai Sonata have bagged good response from car buyers across the globe besides, small car Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20. These have left behind sales of Toyota Camry, Corolla and Honda Civic and Honda Accord.
