Jaguar Land Rover plans to increase its assembly operations
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), British firm of the group Tata Sons is mulling over an increase in its assembly activities in India and is also planning to initiate the same process for its Land Rover products in China.
According to a trusted source, Chairman of Tata Sons stated that company has already started assembly operations for Land Rover Freelander and now is considering over assembly of other Land Rover products in India. China has also become an important market so, the company is also planning operations for localization and assembly of selected products in the country.
JLR started its first assembly plant in Pune this year in May. At this plant Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Land Rover Freelander 2 are assembled from completely knocked down kits. These kits are specifically shipped from a manufacturing unit in Liverpool, UK, known as the Halewood.
Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors are aiming to set up manufacturing facilities in India and UK, so both are coming up with a joint engine development programme.
Both the firms have big plans for product development for cars, commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles and are also looking for developing hybrid and electric vehicles to meet future low emission requirements and increased fuel efficiency.
