Mahindra XUV 500 and Scorpio return as ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012 flags down

Do you know what over 28 Mahindra XUV 500’s and 3 Mahindra Scorpio were doing for the past 22 days? These SUVs were on a tour to 11 countries taking over 116 participants and covering as long as 8000 kms. These Mahindra cars were on the ASEAN-India Car Rally 2012 second edition that ended Monday. The rally marked the 20th anniversary of the ASEAN Indian association. The rally has yet again proved not only mutual brotherhood between the countries but the sturdiness and adventure loving nature of Mahindra cars. It has yet again proved that the Mahindra cars can sustain whatever terrain irrespective of country and boundaries. In addition to this, the XUV 500 and Scorpio’s were on a noble mission.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Ministry of External Affairs were the organizers and the rally was flagged off from Indonesia. En route to India, the cars covered around eight countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar and the rally was flagged down in Assam on Monday just ahead of the 2012 ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit at New Delhi that commences on Thursday. The two day Summit aims at ‘Partnership for Peace and Shared Prosperity’ and the rally is a mark of uniting all the delegates from the countries to take part in this Summit.

The Summit will be strengthening close ties of ASEAN countries with India and the rally has not only helped strengthen mutual brotherhood but it will also help boost trade activities between India and other countries. Already India is exporting cars to Indonesia and other ASEAN countries and primarily Maruti is the exporter. The Maruti Ertiga launched on April 22 this year has been an immense success in there. Mahindra has been exporting automotive to Indonesia since the 1970’s.

Scorpio and XUV 500 are my favorite cars. Performance of the Scorpio is mindblowing while XUV 500 has heat-hitting exteriors and interiors.
