If Mahindra has ever enjoyed a world wide success of any of its car it is Mahindra XUV 5OO. Now it is all ready to launch the petrol model of this SUV sometime next year. The petrol avatar of this SUV will be high in demand as well because those who have driven and owned it have wished that it could have more power. And this power will be provided by the petrol engine. Meanwhile, Mahindra has reopened bookings of the XUV 500 diesel and it expects that people will be responding in the same manner as they did for the last booking sessions. The XUV 500 price starts at Rs 11.70 lakh and at this price it competes with Tata Safari Storme, Force Motors Force One SUV primarily. The top model of Renault Duster also gives a tough competition to the XUV 500.

Though Mahindra has little experience in developing petrol engines and that is why there is a delay. As per reports, 2.2 litre turbo petrol engine will be put under the hood of this car. The engine will have a peak power output of 156 bhp and maximum torque delivery of around 280 Nm. It is expected that the petrol engine will give it class leading power as Renault Duster petrol has only 102 PS power. Also this will be second SUV with a petrol engine option availability.

Experts believe that the XUV 500 petrol will have more takers out of India than here as the country is moving towards diesel and there are too few takers for the petrol model cars specially in the SUV segment. It is expected that the major chunk of petrol model will be exported to other countries and thus a world wide success is in the waiting for this SUV. This way Mahindra will be able to explore petrol only markets such as Indonesia.
