Maruti begins second shift production at Manesar plant

India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki announced start of second shift production at the Manesar plant. This is when the month long standoff between the management and workers of the company. The talks between company officials and the workers have failed once again, as the workers continue to demand rehiring of 62 dismissed workers, but the management has refused to fulfill this demand. According to a reliable source, the management took back 18 workers, but refused to take back the rest, and said that disciplinary actions would be taken against them. However, this has not stopped workers from still demanding take back of all of them. The management of Maruti Suzuki had refused direct talks with Manesar plant workers, and thus, the workers authorised Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union (MUKU) to hold talks on their behalf. Maruti Suzuki has thus far dismissed 33 and suspended 29 workers, on the grounds of deliberate quality compromise and indiscipline.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has started 'B' shift at the second plant at Manesar. The automobile company has also begun production of its hatchback Maruti A-Star, at the Manesar plant. The company is planning to scale up the production. It also started the production of its sedan Maruti SX4 yesterday. The company produced 700 units of its highest selling car Maruti Swift today. With this figure included, since the standoff, just over 10,000 swifts have been manufactured.

The standoff between Maruti Suzuki's management and workers started on August 29, when the company's management asked them to sign the Good Conduct Bond before entering the plant premises. The workers refused to sign the bond, and the strike has since, continued.
