Maruti dealer in New Delhi to pay Rs 15k for late delivery

A consumer forum of New Delhi has ordered a Maruti dealer to pay Rs 15,000 to a customer for late delivery of Maruti SX4. As per the report published in Financial Express, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has asked Competent Automobiles, Maruti dealer in New Delhi, to pay the said amount to Delhi resident Ram Chander Bansal for late delivery of SX4 sedan even after taking full amount from the car buyer. Notably, the waiting for Maruti cars specially the Maruti Ertiga has reached to undefined period following production shortage. Meanwhile, Maruti has sold out Ertiga for the next three months.

As per the sources information, such instances of delay in delivery are rampant for Maruti, Mahindra and Tata cars and car agents often lure customers by promising instant delivery of the car. Often the car could not be delivered on time. However, in such cases the customer adopts patience and waits for the car dealer to deliver the car. In majority of instances, the case is resolved after the delivery of the car. But it is in some cases only that the issues are taken to the court. It is to avoid such issues that Mahindra has adopted phased booking for Mahindra XUV 500.

In the present situation, the so called ‘hand to hand’ delivery is possible for a majority of cars. However, popular car such as Ertiga, XUV 500 have waiting periods. On the other hand, petrol cars such as Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon or any other car have no waiting period for the time being and are available for ready delivery as petrol car sales is already down and supply is intact. It is the diesel cars in India that could bear the brunt of the waiting period as pressure of delivery will be more in the near future. It is to meet this demand that every car maker is increasing its capacity of production to meet the rising demand for cars in India, though slow paced for the time being.
