Maruti Ertiga: More details emerge, beware Innova
Maruti India is coming up with its first true blood MUV Maruti Ertiga. It will be straightaway challenging Toyota Innova and will be trespassing its comfort zone. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 9 lakh, the Ertiga will be priced Rs 1 lakh less than Innova and will be offering more features and mileage compared to the latter. The Maruti MUV will also be the first from its stable. Maruti Omni and Maruti Eeco are MPV that are available in this segment but are much smaller and lower in capacity than the Ertiga.

Initially, Maruti expects that it will be able to sell around 5000 units of Ertiga. Post its launch in India, the car will be exported to Indonesia as knocked down units and will be assembled and sold in there by early next month. In the MUV segment, Innova has been the sole leader. Though there are other offerings such as Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Neo 3 that have tried to challenge the turf but all have failed to reach to the height of Innova. Now that Ertiga is about to be launched, there is certainly much commotion in the Innova stable. Sensing this it is also talk of the town that Toyota could bring in a less powerful avatar and price it right in the segment that Ertiga will target.

In a quick comparison between Innova and Ertiga it is found that Ertiga is a value for money and is expected to deliver more mileage than Innova. Now that its price will be low and it will return more mileage and there is no problem with the brand value, then the outcome is obvious- bumper Ertiga sales. However for those craving for power, the Ertiga is under powered and will have a 1.4 L petrol engine and a 1.3 L diesel engine option. While the Innova has a 2 L petrol and 2.5 L diesel engine in place.
