Maruti Ertiga positions Maruti as number one utility car maker in India

All credit goes to Maruti Ertiga MPV that has made Maruti the largest maker of utility vehicles in India growth wise. With this Maruti has dethroned Tata Motors from the position. With the launch of Ertiga MPV, Maruti has received a jump of over eight times in its share in the UV market in India. The overall share of Maruti in the UV segment has now climbed to 16.7 percent.

As per the report by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, (Siam), India’s largest car maker has acceded to the position of being the largest utility car maker with the launch of Maruti Ertiga and its exceptionally well sales in the recent period. Though the Maruti Gypsy and Maruti Grand Vitara are also there in the utility segment but their contribution to this is negligible. As per the figures available, Maruti sold 13, 237 units in the segment in April and May as against only 1317 units in the same months last year. The Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova rival Ertiga has really left people spell bound with its ultimate looks and incredibly low price which is why it is able to take the market by storm.

However, with the exceptional demand generation for the Ertiga both in India and abroad, its waiting period is bulging to over six months to eight months. Currently, Maruti is building 6000 Ertiga’s in a month as against the original target of producing only 5000 units. Till now since its launch in April this year, over 12,000 Ertiga have been sold and another 30,000 have been booked for delivery. Thus in all over 42,000 Ertiga will be sold in the six months. Experts believe that the rising waiting period could cause spoilsport for the Ertiga and it could be possible that the Ertiga bookings will be affected. Meanwhile, it is also believed that the impending special tax on diesel cars will further dampen car sales in India. Stil Mahindra and Mahindra enjoys apex position as per sales of utility vehicles.
