Maruti Suzuki normal production resumed

The 33-day long standoff between Maruti Suzuki's workers and management, has finally ended and the company restarted full-scale production at the Manesar plant, from Monday. A company official stated that normal production started on Monday, and the workers will restart their duties. He said that on Saturday, no production took place, and the workers would compensate for it on some other day.

The brokered talks by Haryana government helped in ending a 33 day long strike by Maruti Suzuki's workers at the Manesar plant. The management and the workers agreed to each other's request, which said that the company take back 18 suspended trainees, and the workers' sign the Good Conduct Bond.

Though, the other 44 regular employees, who were dismissed or suspended, on the grounds of indiscipline, have not been taken back. The future of these 44 regular workers would be decided through an investigation which would commence soon. The workers signed on to the clause of no work, no pay, in the agreement, and thus, they would not get salaries for the strike period.

Shiv Charan Lal Sharma (Haryana's State Minister for Labour and Employment), J. P. Mann (The Deputy Labour Commissioner), Nitin Yadav (The Assistant Labour Commissioner) and P. C. Meena (Gurgaon District Commissioner) played a major part in finalizing an agreement between the company's management and workers.

The Maruti Suzuki India workers at the Manesar plant went on strike on August 29, when the company's management presented them with Good Conduct Bond, and pevented them from entering the premises of plant before signing it. This had badly affected production of Maruti Swift, Maruti SX4 and Maruti A-Star.
