Maruti Wagon R Diesel – will you be there after the latest Beidouxing X5 MPV styling!

In India, where the Maruti Alto 800 is creating a sensation in the entry level small car segment, the Maruti Wagon R is still holding its position tightly. However, absence of a diesel motor in the Wagon R has somewhat dampened its growth. It is not the case the Maruti does not know this fact and it is not doing some effort to correct this. As per insiders report, Maruti is aggressively trying to revive Wagon R by putting in a diesel heart under the small hood. Meanwhile, reports have come in that the car maker has given a change of styling to the Wagon R and has evolved it into an MPV-Suzuki Beidouxing X5. This seems like stretched Wagon R with the third row seating.

It is said that since the MPV segment in India is taken care of by the Maruti Omni, Maruti Eeco and the latest entry Maruti Ertiga, there is hardly any need to pitch in another MPV in the form of Suzuki Beidouxing X5 and do a spoilsport for the other cars. Also it is reportedly known that the Suzuki Beidouxing X5 will not jump the Great Wall of China to enter any other market. The petrol powered new MPV is also reported to return high mileage and is expected to be offered on petrol. Thus from this perspective that India is fast evolving as a major market for diesel cars, the Suzuki Beidouxing X5 stands unfit.

Meanwhile, the Indian car industry eagerly expects the Wagon R to arrive in diesel variant and with that it is expected that it will be able to have much response. The tall boy lookalike Hyundai Santro rival Wagon R has been the heartthrob of those who wish to have more than hatchback car. If Maruti is able to place a diesel motor in Wagon R, it is believed that it could beat out smaller diesel hatchbacks. However, as per experts there are a lot of technical difficulties that need to be addresses before the Wagon R diesel could take shape. One of the major difficulties is the small space under the hood of the Wagon R. For that it is said that Maruti could think of increasing the length a little bit to accommodate the diesel engine.
