Mercedes Benz - India, Cuts The Price of GL – Class by Rs. 5 Lakh

Mercedes Benz - India, the Indian arm of German auto giant Mercedes has declared that it has started the production of its Mercedes GL – Class at its production unit at Chakan. It would be interested to know that as the result of this Mercedes has announced the cut off Rs. 5 lakh in the actual price of this Sports Utility Vehicle. According to sources of company by starting the production of generation next Mercedes Benz GL –Class in plant which is out of its parent plant located in Tuscaloosa, USA, company has set a milestone in its history. Expressing his views on start of production at Chakan plant, Mr. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director, of Mercedes Benz, India said that by producing GL – Class in local market will prove to be a beneficial deal for local customers in form of instant availability of vehicle on demand.

Moving ahead Mr. Kern said that Benz’s parent company Daimler finds huge potential of growth in Indian car market and by starting the production of GL – Class in India, company endorses its commitment of strengthening the position of its vehicles in India. It would be important to mention that company had launched Mercedes Benz – GL- Class in Indian car market this year in May at price of Rs. 77.5 lakh (ex-showroom price), however by starting production at its Chakan plant company has reduced its price to Rs. 72.58 lakh (ex-showroom price). At present apart from GL – Class, at present company assembles the parts of C, E, S, and M Class in India, it is speculated that in coming future company may also start the assembling of A Class and B Class variants at its Chakan plant.

 It is reported that with an objective of increasing its production company is speculating to make an investment of Rs. 250 crore, so that it can meet its target of producing 20,000 units till 2014. From the years India has been the first choice of all car manufacturers to launch their luxury cars in Indian car market and this step from Mercedes Benz – India is witness about their craze towards Indian car market. It would be interested to know that with an objective of strengthening its roots in India, various variants have been introduced by company in India, and has succeeded in its strategy to great extent.
 
According to statistical data revealed by company, Mercedes – Benz, India witnessed the growth of 32.3 percent during the second quarter of this year by selling 1,756 units which was 1327 during the same period last year. In the view of industry experts the major role behind the success of Mercedes -  Benz India has been played by A and B class cars followed by GL – Class.
