Mitsubishi Mirage ignored, SUV on focus: HM

Under the Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi joint venture, Mitsubishi has indicated that the company will not bring in the Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback to India and instead focus on SUVs for the Indian car bazaar. This also means that the compact sedan on the Mirage platform becomes out of the question for the Indian bazaar. Mirage has been receiving great appreciation in the global market, but India will not be the market, where it will shine-on.

On the other hand, Mitsubishi-HM has terminated the production of its Mitsubishi Lancer sedan as well and rumors suggest that the Mitsubishi Cedia sedan will also be discontinued soon. Therefore, by the middle of 2013, we could expect only SUVs coming from Mitsubishi stable for its Indian fans. If we look at the current status of the car maker, the only vehicle that is making money for the company here is the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV. The car was brought to the country as CBU in the starting, but now it is assembled at Tiruvallur via CKD kits. The car being assembled in India has chopped down the price tag of Pajero Sport SUV by 10% as compared to its initial price.

Besides, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Mitsubishi also has two other SUVs in the Indian car market, comprising of Outlander crossover and Montero SUV.  Both Montero and Pajero Sport are sold with turbo diesel mills under the hood, while the Mitsubishi Outlander crossover has only petrol engine, which has made the sales of this a little less.

This means that the car maker would bring in more diesel powered SUVs for the Indian car market. It would be exciting to see how and what kind of SUVs will be brought to Indian by Mitsubishi. We hope the company keeps in the mind the competition in the market and price their cars smartly.

I don't that why the company has taken the decision about not launch of Mitsubishi Mirage in India but if the company launches this very beautiful small car, I am sure that it will be a bread-butter model. HM is already selling Pajero and Outlander SUV which are doing well. It should be launched Mirage hatchback in India too.
