The Mitsubishi Outlander based concept is designed to run on electric motor as well as a petrol engine. The petrol powertrain is expected to be a 2L petrol engine while there will also be a 80 HP, 60Kw electric motor to its help making the car really fuel efficient. As per reports, the new Mitsubishi car will run on electric motor for the first 50 kms and then as soon as the batteries start discharging, it will automatically switch to petrol mode thus recharging the battery.

In long distance travels, the concept car enters the hybrid mode wherein the car is powered by both the electric motor and the fuel engine. With the hybrid technology in place, Mitsubishi could make the PX-MiEV II to go for 60 kms in one litre petrol and to a range of 800 km. This could be the smartest mileage from a crossover and it seems that this could be the future of crossovers across globe. However, it is in the test phase and will be launched in April 2013.
