MSIL to upgrade Wagon R with AMT system
It is reported that country’s leading car making company Maruti Suzuki India Limited is working on upgrading its one of the best selling hatchbacks Wagon R with AMT transmission system. Reports also reveal that apart from Wagon R company has its another hatchback Alto 800 also in pipeline for upgrading with AMT system. At present company is offering AMT system in Celerio and Alto K10 hatchbacks.

Moving back towards Wagon R, the upgraded version with AMT system will continue the same existing engine configuration of 1.0 litre K Series petrol engine boosting the power of 68 PS and torque of 90 Nm. The AMT system is reported to be supplied by Italian company Magneti Marelli, which at present is supplying the AMT system for celerio and Alto K10. It would be interested to know that with an objective to avoid the problem of long waiting period of AMT cars the Italian supplier is working on enhancing the production of AMT transmission system.
As far as the price of AMT Wagon R is concerned reports suggest that it would be priced little bit higher than the existing version of Wagon R in Indian car market. Reports also reveal that AMT system would be offered in the top end Vxi variant of Wagon R. Going through the regular demand of AMT vehicles in Indian car market now days all major car makers are focusing on introducing AMT transmission system in their upcoming vehicles.
