New Grand Vitara launched, renamed as Suzuki Escudo
The Suzuki Grand Vitara which is sold as Maruti Grand Vitara Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in India has got a new model and rechristening in Japan. The new name is Suzuki Escudo and it is the new model of the Grand Vitara that is launched in Japan. It is expected that the new Maruti SUV will soon be launched in India as the domestic market is abuzz with the success of the Renault Duster and Audi Q3. Both of these were launched recently. The present generation Grand Vitara price in India starts at Rs 16.95 lakh and is available in petrol only models. The Grand Vitara diesel model is expected to start at Rs 19 lakh and its launch is also expected soon.

Among the rivals of Grand Vitara are Ford Endeavour, Skoda Yeti, Tata Aria and Chevrolet Captiva that all offer diesel variants. It is expected that Maruti will be launching the Grand Vitara diesel model along with the launch of the latest generation of the SUV. The Maruti ally Suzuki has put in some very best comfort and safety features in the new Grand Vitara now known as Escudo. Back in India, the prospects of Grand Vitara stand meek as it is available in only petrol model that makes it too unaffordable specially when government has lost control over petrol prices.

The 2013 Grand Vitara features include a redesigned front that has new grille, bumpers and headlamps. Since the new Grand Vitara is made to tackle the off roading well, it has been given the 4L and 4H variants powered by the same 2.4 L petrol engine. The 163 bhp car also has slight changes on the outside and a lot of comfort enhancements inside. New improved plastic along with comfortable and ergonomically designed seats available in a variety of upholstery will be available on the new Grand Vitara.
