New Maruti A Star sedan, Maruti Ritz to follow soon after Ertiga launch today
Now that the Maruti Ertiga MPV is launching today, Maruti is also preparing to launch a new car based on Maruti A-Star. This will be the sedan version of Maruti A Star. On the other hand, the Maruti hatchback Ritz is also in the process of a facelift. Notably, Maruti A-Star is an export oriented hatchback model and is sold in India in the premium hatchback category while Maruti Ritz is a small tall boy kind car that has been sold like hotcakes due to its efficient diesel engine. Maruti plans to position the A Star sedan between Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4.

The three box A Star is expected to be launched in India in early 2013 and thus the wide gap between the Dzire and the SX4 will be bridged. Thus the A Star sedan will be able to have a straight fight with the Czech made for India car Skoda Rapid. Initial details are insufficient to drive any conclusion about the specification but the car will certainly be creating new space for Maruti by filling the void between the Dzire and SX4. The A Star sedan launch will be in compliance of Maruti’s attempt to enter new segments in India and that is why it is launching Ertiga today and will be launching Maruti XA Alpha in early next year.

The new Maruti Ritz on the other hand will be launched soon as the new model has been spotted in Delhi recently. The new Maruti Ritz price is expected to be around Rs 10,000 more than the current version that starts at Rs 4.71 lakh. The new Ritz has grown in looks and appeal with the heightened treatment to the front styling and the rear that the car enthusiasts are dying to see in a changed shape.
