Nissan to launch small car in India, to be priced under Rs 3 Lakh
Japan based automobile manufacturer in India, Nissan Motors is considering make a move into the lucrative segment of small cars after successful launch of hatchback Nissan Micra in the country. The small car segment is currently led by best seller Maruti Alto and subsequently by Hyundai Eon in the country. As per the official words from the company, it is planning to develop a sub-INR 3 Lakh mini car at its fully equipped manufacturing unit based in Chennai. According to the sources, Nissan has a very expert team of engineering professionals at its production unit and it would like to make good utilization of the same.
Nissan will not be competing to the likes of Tata Nano, as it clearly said that it will be an under INR 3 Lakh vehicle and not a sub 2 Lakh car. The Nano will again be seen enjoying the benefit of being the cheapest entry level car around the world and in India as well.

The company would like to cater those consumers who want to upgrade from motor-bikes and Tata Nano for an affordable and fuel efficient small car.
It is not apparent till now that will Nissan work-out this project on its own or it will be supported by its global alliance partner Renault, as they share their Chennai factory. It is expected that company is willing to make India production unit as its hub, which will cater to the demands in the domestic market and look after the exports as well.
