Seven-Seater SUV In The Pipeline Of Jeep For India

The launch of compact SUV Compass by the American car Jeep and its Italian Alliance Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) played an important role in offering a robust platform in strengthening their roots in India. Inspired from the success enjoyed by the Compass the duo are planning to launch its seven-seater version in the Indian car market and is believed to make its debut between 2020-21. The new Compass based SUV will be launched against Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Ford Endeavour and Honda CR-V.

According to industry reports the SUV will be named as Jeep Grand Compass and will be developed on the same platform that will be used for developing the 2020 version of Jeep Compass, that is compliant to BS-VI emission norms. It will be manufactured at the company’s production unit located in Ranjangaon in Pune. The launch of Jeep Grand Compass will help the US based car maker to cement its position in the SUV segment. However, reports suggest that along with this the car maker will also launch economical sub-compact vehicles in India.

As far as engine configurations are concerned nothing has been so far revealed by the car maker, but it is believed that going through the interest of Indian buyers it will be offered in both the petrol and diesel variants. The diesel variant might be equipped with 2.0 litre MultiJet II turbo diesel engine, although with high power generation efficiency. It is reported that after recent launch of Jeep Compass Trailhawk, the company now plans to launch the AMT version of the compact-SUV by the end of this year or by the beginning of next year.
