Sub 2.0-litre XUV500 SUV in Pipeline of M&M

With restriction on entry of vehicles with more than 2000 cc engine displacement capacity in Delhi by Supreme Court of India, domestic car maker M&M is planning to introduce the refreshed version of its XUV500 2.2 litre mHawk engine having displacement capacity less than 2000 cc.  It is rumoured that this engine configuration might be introduced in its recalled SUV XUV 500 equipped with 2000cc engine. Although nothing has been so far officially announced by car maker but native car maker might launch the new XUV 500 sometime during this month in Indian car market.

The existing engine configuration in XUV has displacement capacity of 2179cc followed by bore and stroke layout of 85mm x96mm. To overcome this issue car maker will be required to minimize the bore up-to 81mm or even lesser than it.  This means that there would be integration of new pistons and con-rods which might not be a difficult task for car maker as the production of these materials is already done according to determined standards. But now the question about which industry experts are concerned that will domestic car maker really adopt this solution rather waiting till March 31, 2016 when the decision of Supreme Court will be no longer applicable. There two reasons which strengthen the concern expressed by industry mavens.

First, it is not sure that whether the decision of restricting the vehicles with more than 2000 cc will be surely discontinued on the contrary it is possible that this decision might be introduced in other cities also. The second one is that if M&M introduces sub 2.0 litre engine in XUV 500 it will not only succeed in meeting the demand of XUV500 but will also try to bringing refreshed version of its vehicles which have restricted from entering into the boundary of New Delhi.
