Volkswagen Passat, Jetta petrol to enter India soon

An increase in tax on diesel in India is almost sure, it seems, as car makers such as Volkswagen that has been banking a lot on its only diesel offerings is thinking of pitching in the petrol siblings in India as well. Two cars- Volkswagen Passat and Volkswagen Jetta which are available in diesel only models in India will be launched in petrol models soon, may be in coming March-April. The Jetta petrol and Passat Petrol will be much cheaper than the diesel siblings and will take advantage of the impending increase in tax on diesel cars in India. The VW Passat petrol price is expected to be Rs 21 lakh and is expected this March while the Jetta is expected to be cheaper by Rs 1.5 lakh than its diesel car this April.

The upcoming cars from VW stable- Passat and Jetta petrol have recently been caught in the lens while testing on Indian roads. Once the Jetta and Passat are there, these two will be giving a straight fight to Honda and Toyota which have their cars like Honda Accord and Toyota Camry already offered in petrol. Besides, the two upcoming VW cars will be giving tough time to the yet-to-be launched Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Elantra.

In all probability the German car maker is expected to infuse the petrol Passat and Jetta with the petrol engine from Skoda Superb. With the Superb engine in, the Passat will be powered by 1.8L TSI engine which also serves Skoda Laura as well. The 1.8L engine is a performance driven engine and features 160 bhp power and 250Nm of torque. Where the engine will deliver power amply to the duo it will also be low on noise, harshness and vibration. With the 1.8L engine in these cars, one can expect a decent mileage of 10 kmpl.
