Volkswagen plans a made for India Up, feasibility survey on
Volkswagen will be bringing in Volkswagen Up small car that will cater to the needs of Indian car buyers. With pitching in the Up small car, VW will also be spearheading its campaign to become the number one global brand leaving behind other car makers such as General Motors and Toyota worldwide. And India and China are the leading markets where it can get an edge over other car makers. For VW it was Volkswagen Beetle that fetched volumes worldwide and now the world eagerly awaits a small car avatar such as the VW UP!. Notably, the Up! is an upcoming Volkswagen car in India and it is expected to be launched sometime this year at an expected price of Rs 3.5 lakh.

The small car market in India and China is immense and is still unexplored in the sense that low priced premium offerings are still missing. In India we have the entry level Tata Nano, then there is a pause and then comes Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon and the list goes on. Placing the Up in the entry level premium hatchback segment will not only mean high sales but also sweeping the segment to its side. Where the Up! will be fighting head on with Fiat Panda, Peugeot 107 and French small car Renault Twingo, it will be competing with Skoda Fabia, Ford Figo besides others.

With the target set for 2018, VW is doing whatever it can to realize it seriously. Introduction of new models as well as upgrading the existing ones is a common strategy. Besides, VW will be identifying the segments where it lacks representation and will be pitching in cars in that segment. For this volume segments will be in the focus. As per media reports recently published, the UP is still under feasibility survey in India and will be launched if the German car maker finds it truly a success upon launch.
