Volkswagen plans Ford Ecosport rival SUV, launch late ‘13 or early ‘14
The American car maker Ford is all set for the Ford Ecosport launch in India and now the reports are coming in that the German car maker Volkswagen will be launching Ecosport rival soon. Currently at the design phase, the VW SUV will be heading straight to the compact SUV segment and it could possibly be launched at the next Auto Expo in 2014. However, there will be a gap of one year between the Ecosport and the VW SUV and that is sufficient for the Ford SUV to take over the market in India. VW’s decision to pitch in new SUV in the compact segment seems to be part of its strategy to step up its global sales. Also, the compact SUV segment in India is booming and Renault Duster and Premier Rio Multijet are doing exceptionally well.

In fact, the Duster SUV has unlocked the true potential of the compact SUV market and it has paved the way for other car makers to plunge in this segment that has shown exceptionally well prospects. Overall as well the SUV market in India has improved a lot and as per the auto industry experts, it will be booming to newer heights in the near future as well. Specially when there are some new offerings on card such as the Maruti XA Alpha and Mahindra Quanto.

The compact SUV by VW is believed to be based on the Volkswagen Polo hatchback. In other words it will be based on the VW sizzling hot platform the MQB platform. Being developed on this platform, the VW SUV is expected to translate power into performance in toto. The new platform also ensures that the car will be study, safer and will have lot of ease in maneuverability as it is a platform that has been specifically developed to house small cars, sedans and compact SUVs. With this in purview, it is expected that if priced well, VW will be able to transform the meaning of luxury in the compact SUVs as well.
