Volkswagen unveils India bound small car Up!

The largest European car maker Volkswagen has unveiled its small car Volkswagen Up. The new Volkswagen Up will be launched in the Indian auto market next year. The car is expected to hit the Indian roads in a five door version. It has been a long time since the company is mulling to roll-out this model in the Indian auto market, but this time the long wait of Indian car enthusiasts seems to be finally over.

Powered by a 1.0L engine, the Volkswagen Up model is capable of delivering a peak power of 59 Bhp. The car will be launched in a petrol version only and will be competing with the likes of Maruti Wagon R, A-Star, Hyundai i10, Toyota Etios Liva and Chevrolet Beat. The car will be delivering an exceptional fuel economy of up to 24 kmpl. The car will be priced below the premium hatchback Volkswagen Polo in the company’s India portfolio.

However, the company is yet to provide further details regarding the timeline of launch and specification details of the car in the country. More details regarding the European auto giant’s global plans could be announced at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show which is scheduled to be held in the month of September 2011. Volkswagen is expected to showcase the new generation version of Up! model at this Motor Show.

Some of the popular hatchback models in the Indian auto market are Chevrolet Beat Diesel, Ford Figo and Maruti Swift. Apart from these popular models, cars going to hit the Indian roads this year are Nissan Sunny, Maruti Cervo and Honda Brio.
