Volkswagen Up and Skoda Citigo electric cars on the cards
The German automaker, Volkswagen has announced to manufacture the electric version of hatchback ‘Volkswagen Up’ and its subsidiary Skoda will come-up the electric variant of Skoda Citigo. The Volkswagen e-Up will be launched in 2013 & Skoda e-Citigo will appear in 2014, as per a report of major Auto magazine. The Volkswagen e-Up concept has got futuristic looks with the more aerodynamic chassis and a unique arc-shaped layout of the LED daytime.
Though, the rest designing pattern is identical to its standard version. Earlier, Volkswagen has introduced its electric car with the tagline of “The Beetle of the 21st Century”. This next generation electric car will be powered with an 18kWh electric motor that generates a peak power of 80hp and maximum torque of 210Nm.

It will perform brilliant on urban roads as well as on highways with an impressive mileage of 150km/l and offer top speed of 135 kms/hrs. In order to provide a good boot space, the batteries have been assembled under the body. Volkswagen e-Up will face the tough challenge with Chevrolet Beat EV.

Company has showcased the Volkswagen e-Bugster concept (electric variant) in Detroit auto show but there are no official words for the electron-fired e-Up and gasoline powered Up. The brand new Skoda e-Citigo is inspired by the Volkswagen e-Up, which is expected to hit the European market in 2014.
This electric gizmo comes powered with an 18kWh electric motor churning out maximum power of 80hp. It will cover 81 miles with the top speed of 81mph. The currently available standard variants of Volkswagen Up and Skoda Citigo are boosted with the 1.0 liter three cylinder engines that deliver the best power of 60hp and 75hp varies with trim.
