Volkswagen Up Electric to be launched in Germany only

It’s time that car makers are putting an effort and doing their bit to save the environment. Numerous car makers are working on electric cars. Besides saving the environment, the soaring fuel prices are another reason of manufacturing electric cars. The recent one in the department is Volkswagen. The VW group is ready with the all electric version of its hatchback Volkswagen Up! This one is will be launched in the Germany very soon for a price of 25,000 Euros, which comes about to be Rs. 17 lakh. The price certainly seems to be quite high, which means for flourishing markets like China and India might not give it a green signal. However, on the other hand, being a Volkswagen product, the car is likely to give out a good performance and would run to 130 km in a single full charge and goes from 0-60 kmph in merely 5 seconds, which seems very commendable for an electric car.

Under the hood, the lithium ion battery pack is capable of producing 80BHP of peak power along with 120Nm of maximum torque. Good power, impressive acceleration and pickup are the major highlights of the car. However, the only drawback of the car is its high price, which is making the launch of Up! Electric, very dicey for India.

Its competitor, Nissan Leaf is no less, neither in terms of price nor performance. The car has a price tag of 37,000 Euros in Europe and has a powerful electric motor. Therefore, to keep the electric mode going on in the Indian car market, Mahindra is working on it since long and had introduced Mahindra Reva for less than Rs. 4 lakh. And now the firm is set to launch the higher model of Reva called E2O. so, if Nissan and VW need to bring in its electric vehicles to India, pricing competitively is the main requirement.
