Volkswagen Up! Five-door patent drawings emerge
German car giant Volkswagen is presently burning the midnight oil in assessing the prospects of its new car Volkswagen Up! hatchback in India. Apart from this, recently there were some drawings that suggest that it will be a five door car. Volkswagen has reportedly submitted the drawing for patent at the European patent Office. The Up! is expected to be priced at Rs 3.5 lakh and will be offered in both petrol and diesel version options.

The German car maker has unveiled the five door version christened as Cross Up! concept at the Frankfurt motor show held last year and with a close resemblance to the five door version, it is being said that the Cross Up was nothing but the five door avatar of the new Volkswagen hatchback. Similar to Up! the Cross Up! is expected to have a three pot 1L petrol powertrain. It is expected to be available in two versions viz. 59 Bhp and 75 Bhp. Reports have also come in that Volkswagen Up! might also be available in electric powered car model. For India, it is believed that VW can think of putting the 800cc turbodiesel engine under the hood of Up!.

The VW Cross Up! is expected to create its own presence in the developing and relatively untapped markets such as India where small cars are in great demand. Presently, Up! is being sold in Europe and is doing well following its low price and strict following of the pollution norms of the European continent. There in October 2011 it was launched in five models Take Up!, Move Up!, High Up!, Up! black and Up! white. There it is available in 1.0 three-cylinder petrol 60 hp (45 kW) and 75 hp (56 kW) versions. The under-four meter long front-wheel driven Up! is available there in a five-speed manual gearbox type.
