Volkswagen Up may have three avatars in India

Volkswagen is now considering over the entry of its Spanish brand SEAT in the country. As per the German group the Spain based car brand SEAT will make an entry in the China auto sector next year. Many cars in the line-up of Spanish firm are based on the Volkswagen brand’s car models just like the Skoda. And SEAT will debut in India with Mii; the small hatchback car.

If the plans go into implementation then a lot of component sharing and platform sharing is bound to happen. Also, as all of the three brands belong to the same parent company of Volkswagen Group. But one thing is for sure that Volkswagen will position SEAT as base-level brand. Now it’s a known fact that the upcoming compact car Skoda Citigo is based on the Volkswagen Up platform. And with another small car based on similar layout, we will have three editions of Volkswagen Up in India; Skoda Citigo, SEAT Mii and Volkswagen Up itself.

It is not easy to understand how the parent company will situate these three vehicles in the Indian auto market. The company needs to keep in mind that the car buyer shouldn’t get into the state of misunderstanding with similar products being offered, another important front will be the individual performance on the sales ground should not clash with each other.

As per speculations SEAT Mii will be the base, Skoda Citigo captures the mid spot while on the high point will be the Volkswagen Up. Besides these the Spanish SEAT also features a hatchback car which is based on Polo; named Ibiza.

Volkswagen currently retails Vento, Polo, Jetta and Passat while Skoda sells Laura, Superb and Fabia across the nation.
