Volkswagen Up nears launch, car maker begins localization

It is the small car market in India that lures even the biggest and the brightest car makers from across globe. However, only few could offer a decent offering that could be said to really work. Japanese car maker Suzuki did wonders with India car maker Maruti by launching the Maruti 800 and now it seems to be the turn of Volkswagen that is preparing a ground for the Volkswagen Up small car launch soon. It is believed that the car maker has already begun customizing the Up car to Indian road conditions and very soon its testing will begin. The Volkswagen Up price in India is expected to remain around Rs 4 lakh and being a small car it will be competing with the Maruti Alto K10, Hyundai EON, Honda Brio and the Chevrolet Spark apart from other hatchbacks in the segment.

As per a report, the Up car by VW will have high level of localization and the car maker has already started building the Up using parts assembled in house. This will also help VW keep the price of the car really down as compared to international models of the Up Also, this will make the Up! more feasible for the Indian market and being produced in house will mean that there will be a little trouble in getting the spare and other service. All is believed to go well for the VW small car but what will be the result of the slowdown that has gripped the industry. In August the car sales were down by 19 percent and exports were down by 27 percent. This means that industry is unwell.

But it is the good offerings such as the Up that will be doing wonders even in this thought to be recession period. Now that Volkswagen Up launch in India decided, the prospects of Skoda Citigo are high. The Indian version of the Up will be available in three door and five door versions and it will have the 1 L engine with 59 bhp and 74 bhp power options. It will be offered in petrol.
