Volkswagen Up; the sensational compact set to storm India by 2013

Ever since the auto giant Volkswagen Group has intended to launch its compact Volkswagen Up, the small car has been in top stories of the auto news for quite some time now. The craze for small and compact cars in the Indian auto industry seems no end. And to make people more obsessed the automobile manufacturers are going all lengths. Be it the home-based automakers like Maruti, or global automakers like Hyundai, Nissan, Ford and many more.

As per the speculations the Volkswagen Up will land in India by the year 2013, the thrill element is that it will the cheapest entry level car for Volkswagen Group in the country.

Currently the Up carries two-door concept for European market, but will see a four-door version for India line-up and being the most affordable small car from Volkswagen, it will be positioned under the current hatchback Polo. The four seat vehicle is basically produced keeping in mind the needs of a city dweller and the expected price will range between INR 3 Lakhs-3.50 Lakhs for the base variant.

The car which is at present sold in Europe has petrol powered engine, but looking at the market trend in India, it may get a diesel as well as petrol in terms of engine choices. In the European auto market the small car is offered in a unique pattern, with a 3-cylinder 800cc petrol run power-train yielding 59 bhp and 75 bhp. The interesting fact is that in both the trims the car offers a superb mileage, close to 20kmpl. As it will be pointed below Polo, In the same year 2013 or later the auto sector will also observe the debut of Volkswagen Group’s Skoda brand Citigo compact car and group’s Spanish subsidy SEAT’s small car Mii.
