The VW Beetle diesel is expected to be powered by the same 2.0 L TDI engine that powers most of VW’s diesel cars viz. Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat. The engine produces 140bhp and 236 lb-ft of torque sufficiently powerful for the VW iconic car Beetle. The VW Beetle diesel is expected to deliver a mileage of 22 kmpl and will have a six-speed manual gearbox to ensure that every trace of power is transmitted to the wheels in toto.

VW Beetle’s performance in India has been outstanding with impressive sales since its launch in December 2009. Since then the bug shaped small car has also been a centre of attraction following its world acclaimed shape and maneuverability. It is among the cars that VW imports as completely built units in India and following the 100 percent duty it is costlier in India. Still there are many takers of the fascinating car. Regarding the VW Beetle diesel, experts believe that despite its cost there will be lot of takers as there is significant growth in the diesel car buyers in India as the petrol price has surged to never before limits. This is also significant as companies have witnessed sales of more diesel variants than the petrol ones.
