Audi all set to steal the top spot from BMW
Heat is building up, as Audi is now directly taking on fellow German automobile company BMW for the slot of largest luxury carmakers in India. Audi has set the target of dethroning BMW by the year 2015. But before getting to the top, Audi would have to make its way from third position to the second position, by beating yet another luxury automobile giant Mercedes-Benz.
Audi is currently at the third position on the list of largest luxury car sellers in India. Audi has enjoyed 100-plus percent growth in the month of August, this year. It sold 510 units in August, as compared to 250 units in July. The total number of units sold in this year, from January till August, is 3,655 units, with 95 percent growth rate. This year, Audi has set a target of selling 5,000 units in total. Audi India's Head, Michael Perschke said that they are confident about Audi's growth rate and the target of going to the top spot by 2015. He said that they will hire about 600 more people and will increase the number of dealerships by the end of this year, by taking the toll to 25.
Audi has plans to improve its portfolio by launching the Q3 model next year. Amidst the dropping sales in the domestic market, the foreign automobile companies are registering a significant increase in sales numbers. Mercedes has come up with plans of getting back to the top spot by 2015. The company lost the top spot to BMW first in 2009, and it has been so since then. However, Mercedes-Benz now has plans to introduce 9-10 new models in the next three years. BMW India's President, Andreas Schaaf said that BMW would retain its top spot as it has cars to offer to all age groups. He feels that the success of the company is because of the same reason.
