Diwali brings new breath of life for car makers, sales surge overwhelmingly
The heavy car sales on this festive season, which has been considered one of the most auspicious occasions to buy a new car in India, has come as a new ray of hope for the Indian car makers. While earlier it was expected that the car industry may end-up witnessing a single digit growth this festive season, the record Dhanteras car sales have raised hopes of achieving a double digit growth this festive season.
The Dhanteras proved a super Sunday for the car makers in India, with a considerable number of car buyers opted to buy their new cars on this auspicious day. Not only car makers but the two-wheeler makers have also witnessed heavy sales during last Sunday.

While the complete sales figures of the day are not available some of the auto makers have released the total sales registered during this day. While country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki managed to sell a total of 10,000 units of their cars on this Dhanteras, Two-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp sold a total of 1 lakh two-wheelers during this day. Hero’s erstwhile partner Honda sold 50,000 two-wheelers this Sunday, registering a sales surge of 138 percent over the previous year’s Dhanteras.
The top contributors in the Maruti car sales during this day were new small car Alto 800, hatchback Swift, subcompact sedan Swift Dzire etc. The company saw a 19 percent increase in their deliveries during this festive season.

Moreover, the recently offered heavy discounts have regenerated customer’s interest in the petrol run cars, boosting the sales of cars like Santo Xing, i10 and i20. The growth of country’s second largest car maker Hyundai has surged 11 percent so far in this festive season.
The heavy car sales this festive season are expected to contribute in improving the annual growth figures of the industry, which was otherwise going through very slow sales during since the starting of this year.
