Honda Civic Diesel coming soon!

The Japanese auto giant Honda is aggressively working on its Earth Dream project which includes the development of new Turbo diesel engines. At a time, when the demand for diesel run cars is shooting upwards in the global market, Honda seems to have released that the importance of having diesel versions in the portfolio.

The premium sedan Honda Civic will be the first Honda portfolio car that will be rolled-out in a diesel version. It is expected that the upcoming 2012 Honda Civic sedan will be coming powered by a Honda’s Earth Dream 1.6L i-DTEC Turbo Diesel engine.

The highly fuel efficient 1.6L engine is capable of outpouring a peak power output of 120 bhp at 4,000 rpm along with a massive torque 300 Nm at 2000 rpm. Moreover, the carbon emission level of this engine is very low as it emits only 95g of CO2 per km. The fuel efficiency of this engine will be kept very high by using light weight material in the manufacturing. The production of this upcoming Earth Dream 1.6L i-DTEC Turbo Diesel engine will be commenced by the end of this year the Honda’s UK plant.

Meanwhile in India, the competition for Honda has been increasing day by day as more and more buyers now prefer to buy diesel version of the cars due to skyrocketing petrol prices. The company’s small car Brio, flagship sedan Honda City and premium sedan Civic all are facing a tough competition from a range of other cars that are available in diesel versions. It is expected that the company will launch the diesel version of Civic in India soon after rolling-out it in European market. Civic is currently competing with a number of diesel run cars in its segment including Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and Skoda Laura.
