Hyundai makes use of Kai Picanto to test Next Gen i10
Kia Picanto has been spotted on the Chennai road has raised confusion. Does Hyundai’s sister concern Kia plan to launch Kia Picanto in India and is it Kia Picanto’s test run on the Chennai roads. Sources said that Kia has no plans to launch Kia Picanto in India as of now as
Hyundai is already getting orders for its diesel vehicles as the sale of petrol car has been affected badly by the increase in petrol prices.

The auto industry sources said that it’s not Kia Picanto which is being tested on Chennai road but it is next generation i10 which is being tested in Picanto. It is learnt that Hyundai is using Kia Picanto to test individual parts like powertrains, which would be used in next generation
Hyundai i10, which would be launched soon in India. Since the petrol prices have touched new high recently, Hyundai Motors have decided to launch a diesel variant of the next generation i10. Also, Hyundai Motors is also planning to make use of new petrol engine in its cars. It may be possible that when Kia Picanto was spotted on Chennai road, it was testing petrol engine.

At the time when the sale of diesel cars has shot up, Hyundai Motors has decided to set up a plant to manufacture petrol engine in India itself. Earlier, the petrol engines were imported from Korea. The cost of importing diesel engine was high so manufacturing diesel engines locally would reduce the manufacturing cost of the diesel cars. Hyundai’s next generation Hyundai i10 would hit the showrooms in India in the beginning of 2014. The production of the car would be done in its plant in Turkey. In the same plant, Hyundai would also build Hyundai Fluidic i20. The vehicle Fluidic
i20 has been launched in the Indian market recently. The next generation i10 has been codenamed BA.
