Maruti Alto creates a new Landmark in Indian car market
Maruti Alto one of the highest selling hatchbacks from country’s leading car manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki India Limited has repeated the history created by its ancestor Maruti 800. Following the same path of inheritance of Maruti 800, Maruti Alto has also managed to sale out of 25 lakh units since its inception in 2000. MSIL had launched Alto in 2000 to bridge the gap between 800 and the then highly acclaimed hatchback Maruti Zen.

However after it the hatchback went through various phases of facelift, followed by the major change in 2012 which included major cosmetic changes at both the interiors and exteriors. Although it continued the same existing 800 cc three cylinder petrol engine churning the power of 48 bhp and torque of 69 Nm. Apart from this company also introduced the advanced version of Alto in form of Alto K10 which was embellished with 1.0 litre three cylinder petrol engine developing the power of 67 bhp and torque of 90 Nm.
According to sources of company Alto 800 is the second car in the history of Indian auto industry to touch the mark of 25 lakh units after its elder sibling Maruti 800, which was also one the best selling cars of Indian car history. It would be interested that highly acclaimed hatchback from Tata Motors Tata Nano also could not succeed in breaking the throne Maruti Alto and till date dominates the hatchback segment in Indian car market and gives tough competition to existing hatchbacks including recently launched Datsun Go, Hyundai Eon etc.
