Maruti plans second plant in Gujarat, to focus on small cars
Maruti India is the largest car maker and it has set plans to be at the number one position forever, it seems. The car maker has focused a lot on small cars such as Maruti Alto 800, Maruti Alto K10 and others and this is its key with which it tasted success in the country. Not only these two but its every car in any segment is well accepted. Be it then the Maruti Swift in the hatchback segment or the Maruti Swift Dzire in the compact sedan segment. But there are some Maruti cars that are still to pick up pace even after years of their launch. Thus sensing that it has little scope in the premium car segment, the car maker has decided to keep its focus intact on small budget cars only. This means that Maruti has no plan to build premium cars in the country.

This focus on small cars is also reiterated by its latest venture in Gujarat wherein it has started the process of establishing its second plant in there. Already, Maruti has over 700 acre land allotted by the Gujarat government and now the company has on its own and with the help of the government acquired a site measuring over 600 acre near the first plant. This will be the second plant site in Gujarat. The second site will also be inviting Rs 4000 crore of investment. Now Maruti has plans to set up two plants in the Narendra Modi led state.

It is believed that Maruti will be making the export oriented cars in there as the site is very near to the port. Now that the company has plans to build the second plant, it is believed that it will also be manufacturing high volume cars such as the small car Maruti Alto 800 and others. This will also help the car maker fight with the problem maker Manesar plant in Haryana. Over 2.5 lakh cars will be produced at the plant.
