New Volkswagen Beetle 2012 Auto Expo launch confirmed

Volkswagen India is geared up to launch an all-new version of its iconic car Volkswagen Beetle which is also known as ‘Volkswagen Bug’ in some countries. The company has chosen a perfect place to unveil its ‘New Beetle’ in the form of 2012 Indian Auto Expo that will take place in the month of January in Delhi. After its launch, the technically advanced New Beetle will replace the existing version of the compact car in the nation. Prior to its India uncovering, the New Beetle was launched in China on a new platform in the Shanghai Motor Show of 2011.

The current generation of the iconic car that was launched in India in 2009 is already sold as New Beetle and now with its 2012 unveiling in the pipeline, we can call it as 2012 Beetle in order to avoid confusion with the present model.

So, the 2012 Beetle is expected to offer a variety in its engine displacements as it may be available with three power-train options in India. The 2.0 liter TSI Turbocharged petrol engine and 5-cylinder 2.5 liter petrol engine along with a never seen diesel engine in the form of 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel power-train. On the 2.5 liter engines, the consumer will have a choice to either go for a 6-speed automatic transmission or the standard 5-speed manual transmission.

Out of the three engine variants, India will surely get the 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel power-train, sighting the current craze for diesel cars in the country. The Clean Diesel engine will be offered with the famous DSG 6-speed twin-clutch transmission. The 2012 Beetle with 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel power-train will prove to be the most fuel economical car in the Beetle range till date. The 4-cylinder Clean Diesel power-train churns out utmost power of 140 bhp in conjunction with peak torque of 347 Nm.

In the 2012 Beetle, one will quickly notice the change in the front appearance as the iconic car has now received bi-xenon headlamps that are embedded with priceless diamonds that is daytime running LEDs along with the panoramic top.

Director and Board Member for Volkswagen Passenger Cars in India, Mr. Neeraj Garg said that the finest platform to display the 21st Century Beetle cannot be better than the Auto Expo. The company is positive on the thought that its latest creation will surely be the attention grabber in the Volkswagen pavilion at Pragati Maidan, he added.
