Nissan’s Datsun small cars to be priced under Rs 4 lakh in India

Going ahead with their small car plans in the Indian market, the Japanese auto giant Nissan has announced to launch their new small car range in the country. The announcement was made at the ongoing Paris Motor Show, where the company showcased a range of their existing and upcoming cars. As some of you may be aware of, the Nissan’s small cars will be launched in the country under the Datsun brand, to which the company is considering to roll-out in the high growth potential markets like India, Russia and Indonesia.

It is to be mentioned here that Datsun planning to launch as many as 10 new car models in the emerging markets like India in the coming years. The new vehicles from Datsun brand include a few small cars, a small Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) and a few compact hatchbacks. The company spokesperson has indicated that two small hatchbacks will be launched in the Indian market by year 2014, where it will be priced under Rs 4 lakh. Considering the low price tag of under Rs 4 lakh, the cars will be competing with the likes of Maruti Wagon R, Maruti A Star and Hyundai i10.

In order to keep the pricing of these cars low, the company is expected to use high level of localization content in the manufacturing, through which it will not only make them highly competitive in terms of price but also enable the car maker to give a strong opening to these small cars. In past few years, India has been emerging as a manufacturing hub for the small cars with a number of global car makers establishing their car manufacturing facilities in India, followed by their exports to a number of other countries from here.
