World Car of the Year 2012: Volkswagen Up and Rang Rover Evoque
It’s raining accolades for Volkswagen Up and Land Rover Range Rover Evoque at the ongoing New York International Auto Show today. Where the Up! bagged the World Car of the Year 2012 award, the Range Rover Evoque has been awarded has 2012 World Car Design of the Year. This is the third time that any VW car has been awarded the World Car of the Year 2012 title. It was VW Golf in 2009 and VW Polo that has been acclaimed World Car of the Year in 2010. It is for the first time that Range Rover Evoque has got the award of being the best world car design for its bold, dramatic design.

Where VW Up! is an upcoming car in India from the German stable, Range Rover Evoque is already available at a starting price of Rs 57 lakh. Available in both diesel and petrol options, the Evoque SUV’s convertible was recently unveiled at one international auto show and is expected to be launched in India in 2014. The Land Rover has a long time presence in India and the bond has strengthened with Tata owning it.

The Up! small car is on the other hand highly expected as VW could pitch in a small car offering which will be placed under VW Polo in the price band. Expected to be priced around Rs 3.5 lakh in India, the compact city car UP car promises performance and safety. Euro NCAP has awarded UP! a maximum five points due to its safety features and has also acclaimed its emergency braking system.
The Volkswagen Up is expected to storm the Indian hatchback market as VW as a brand has already settled in the country with its offerings Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Vento besides others. Another small car from VW’s subsidiary Skoda is the Skoda Citigo that could also enter India and easily settle down.
